Just Booked Your Flight to Cap-Haïtien? Book Your Hotel Next

The flight is booked. The confirmation email is in your inbox. For a moment it feels like the hard part is done. Then the next questions arrive: where will you sleep the night you land, who is picking you up, and what happens if the flight is late?

The days right after you book a flight are the best time to settle all of that. Rooms are easier to find, pickups are easier to arrange and you have time to ask questions. Here is a simple checklist to go from flight booked to fully sorted, in the order that matters most.

Step 1: Lock in your first night today

Your first night is the one you cannot improvise. You will be tired, carrying bags and arriving in a place where getting around after dark is not advised. Canada’s travel advice for Haiti recommends avoiding travel after dark, so you want a room confirmed and a ride waiting before you ever board.

Small guesthouses in Cap-Haïtien have only a handful of rooms. Busy dates, like the holidays or family events, can fill well before the flights do. Booking your room the same day as your flight removes the biggest unknown from the trip.

  • Traveling alone or as a couple? A single room is usually enough.
  • Traveling with family or a group? Consider booking a whole house so everyone lands in the same place.
  • Not sure where to stay? Our guide to where to stay in Cap-Haïtien compares the areas, and our guide to hotels near the Cap-Haïtien airport explains what matters for the first night.

Step 2: Send your flight details to your hotel

As soon as your room is confirmed, send the property your airline, flight number, date and scheduled arrival time. Include the number of people and bags. This is how the pickup gets planned, and it gives the front desk a way to follow your flight if it changes.

If several people are on different flights, send every flight in one message, with a name next to each one. It is much easier for a host to plan from a single list than from five separate chats.

Step 3: Confirm the airport pickup

Do not leave the ride from the airport to chance. Ask your hotel:

  • Is the pickup included, or is there a charge?
  • Where exactly will the driver meet me, and how will I recognize them?
  • What happens if my flight is delayed or arrives early?
  • Who do I call if I cannot find the driver?

Save the answers and the phone number in your phone before you travel. Our Cap-Haïtien airport arrival guide explains what happens between landing and meeting your driver.

Step 4: Plan your first evening

After a travel day, you want three things: food, a shower and sleep. Ask before you arrive whether you can eat on site in the evening. If there is no restaurant, plan where dinner will come from, because heading out again on your first night is not ideal.

Also think about your phone. Decide whether you will use roaming, buy a local SIM or rely on Wi-Fi for the first day. Our guide to money, SIM cards and Wi-Fi in Haiti covers the options, including cash.

Step 5: Read the advisories and share your plans

As of September 2026, the US, Canada and France all advise against travel to Haiti. If you are going anyway, for family, work or a long-planned visit, read the official pages before you finalize anything. Our honest guide to whether Cap-Haïtien is safe to visit summarizes what each government says.

Share your flight and hotel details with one or two people at home, not on social media. Keep your plans within a small circle.

Step 6: Check what is open before you plan day trips

Some of the north’s best-known sites are affected right now. The Citadelle Laferrière has been closed to visitors since April 11, 2026. Sans-Souci Palace was damaged by a storm, and cruise calls at Labadee are paused through June 2027. Our attractions page has the latest, and our guide to things to do in Cap-Haïtien lists what you can still enjoy.

Step 7: Pack for the first 24 hours

Keep a small bag with everything you need for your first night: medication, a change of clothes, chargers and a copy of your booking and hotel phone number. If a checked bag is delayed, you will still be comfortable. Our guide to the best time to visit Cap-Haïtien will help you pack for the weather.
